LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University baseball team (2-8, 2-8 PSAC East) opened its four-game Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division series with Shippensburg University (5-7, 5-5 PSAC East) today at home and Ship won both games.
Shippensburg edged out Lock Haven 6-5 in game one and SU completed the Friday-sweep with a 10-0 victory in game two.
In game one, Lock Haven trailed 5-0 after 2 ½ innings, but the Bald Eagles got three runs back in the bottom of the third. In the bottom of the third,
Reagan Lawlor (McMurry, Pa./Peters Township) hit a two-run home run and
Joe Shannon (Warminster, Pa./William Tennent (Mercer C.C.) tallied an RBI-single.
Ship led 5-3 after three, but LHU rallied and tied the game at 5-5 in the sixth, thanks to a pair of runs. The visitors however plated the eventual game-winning run in the top of the seventh.
Lawlor was 2 for 3 at the plate and Shannon was 2 for 4. Lock Haven starting pitcher
Scott Leitholf (Dillsburg, Pa./Northern York) struck out six in five innings.
Behind Kiernan Higgins' outstanding pitching effort, Shippensburg won game two. The Raider starter threw a complete-game one hitter and had a no-hitter going through 6 1/3 innings. Lock Haven's
Joey Lowen (Pittsburgh/Mount Lebanon (Onondaga C.C.) broke up the no-hitter with the Bald Eagles only game-two hit with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Lock Haven and Shippensburg will close their four-game PSAC East series tomorrow (Saturday, March 27) with a doubleheader at Shippensburg. Game one is set for a 12 p.m. start.
