LORETTO, Pa. – The Lock Haven University field hockey team (1-1) was edged out, 3-2, tonight on the road at Saint Francis (Pa.) University (1-4) in non-conference action.
Tonight's game marked LHU's first competition since the Bald Eagles' season-opener a week ago today (Sept. 3) and it marked Lock Haven's first true road-test of the 2021 season.
Billie Jo Bollinger (Manheim, Pa./Manheim Central) and
Constanza Lopez Zabala (Buenos Aires, Argentina/Colegio Martin y Omar) scored for LHU, while both
Martina Spangenberg (Buenos Aires, Argentina/Piaget) and
Jasmine Miller (Lancaster, Pa./Penn Manor) were credited with assists.
Karina Long (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin) led a strong Lock Haven defensive effort and goalkeeper
Joaquina Orlandini (Concordia, Argentina/San Antonio School) finished with five saves.
Trailing 1-0, Bollinger knocked home her first goal of the season to bring LHU level.
Again, Lock Haven found itself trailing, but Zabala knocked home a perfect crossing-pass from Miller and made it 2-2 in the 39
th minute. It marked the first goal of Zabala's Haven career.
Host Saint Francis however broke the tie and converted the game-winning strike with 6:25 left in the match.
Last Friday, Lock Haven opened the 2021 season with a thrilling 2-1 overtime-victory at home vs. Ball State.
The Bald Eagles will return home to host Bucknell on Sunday, September 12 at 1 p.m.
