LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University field hockey team (1-2) fell to visiting Bucknell, 2-0, this afternoon on Charlotte Smith Field in non-conference action.
Bucknell's M.K. Stefanowicz scored twice on penalty corner plays to lead the Bison (3-2) by LHU. Her first goal came early in the second quarter and she added one late in the third quarter.
For Lock Haven, goalkeeper
Joaquina Orlandini (Concordia, Argentina/San Antonio School) made seven saves in a strong effort.
Zhao Rodrigo (Valencia, Spain/Colegio San Bartoleme) led the way for LHU from the defensive end. She turned in a stellar effort from her left-back position and she created a number of strong Haven scoring chances off of penalty corner attempts. Twice, her well-timed shots needed to be turned away from Bucknell keeper Clara McCormick.
Jasmine Miller (Lancaster, Pa./Penn Manor) turned in solid effort for The Haven.
Lock Haven opened the weekend with a road game at Saint Francis (Pa.) on Friday (Sept. 10) and the Bald Eagles were edged out on the road, 3-2. Friday's match marked LHU's first game in exactly one week after The Haven opened the 2021 season at home on Friday, September 3 with a thrilling 2-1 overtime-win over Ball State.
The Bald Eagles will open Atlantic 10 Conference (A-10) action on Friday, September 17 at 3 p.m. vs. VCU. Virginia Commonwealth, the 2020-21 A-10 championships, was tabbed as the preseason favorite to win the league.
