Men’s Soccer victorious in Saturday night clash with Goldey-Beacom

The LHU men’s soccer team picked up its first win of the 2021 season, thanks to a three-goal effort on Saturday night at home.

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – After a scoreless first half, the Lock Haven University men's soccer team (1-1-1) scored three second-half goals and the Bald Eagles rolled to their first victory of the 2021 season. LHU downed Goldey-Beacom (1-3), 3-1, on the home turf at Hubert Jack Stadium.

Beckham Sibiski (Kutztown, Pa./Kutztown H.S.), Colton Swanson (Bradford, Pa./Bradford) and Samuel Hershey (Lancaster, Pa./McCaskey) scored for Lock Haven.

Lock Haven controlled most of the first half and created several strong chances, but just couldn't find the back of the net. The two teams were deadlocked at 0-0 after the opening 45 minutes of play in the spirited non-conference match. The Bald Eagles best chance of the first came from the penalty spot, but LHU was unable to convert.

Sibiski opened the scoring in the 54th minute when he smashed one home from 25 yards out. Zane Puhala (Brockway, Pa./Brockway) set up the goal with a perfect crossing pass after a brilliant run down the left side.

Swanson made it 2-0 after Hershey played a perfect through ball into the box. Swanson calmly tucked the ball home after running onto the Hershey pass in 69th minute.

The visitors got one back in the 73rd after a long free kick found the back of the net after bouncing around the goal line in a scramble.

Lock Haven held strong and put the match away in the 85th minute when Hershey drilled a long shot into the side netting at the far post.

Deegan MacLeod (New Cumberland, Pa./Cedar Cliff) and Eion Roman (Pennsauken, N.J./Pennsauken) both turned in notable efforts for Lock Haven. Andrea DiSomma (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township) helped direct the attack and created several scoring chances in a workmanlike-effort.

Bald Eagle goalkeeper Aitor Ruiz de Eguilaz (Euskadi, Spain/Koldo Mitxelena(Robert Morris) secured the victory for LHU.

The Bald Eagles will open Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division play on Wednesday (September 15) night at nationally-ranked (No. 24) Millersville University.
