Men’s Soccer pulls upset, stuns #12 Millersville 2-0

The LHU men’s soccer team opened the 2021 PSAC East season tonight with a massive win on the road at #12 Millersville.

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – The Lock Haven University men's soccer team (2-1-1, 1-0 PSAC East) stunned Millersville University (4-1, 0-1 PSAC East), 2-0, in a shocking Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division upset on a stormy south-central Pennsylvania night.

The Bald Eagles got off to a flying start as their sensational forward Andrea DiSomma (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Twp.) headed home a corner kick from Beckham Sibiski (Kutztown, Pa./Kutztown H.S.) just five minutes into the opening half. The junior's team-high second goal on the season gave LHU the 1-0 lead which held until a first half lighting delay. Following the resumption of play, LHU held on to their slender 1-0 advantage into the halftime break

In the second half, the Marauders began to press for the equalizing goal as the minutes began to wane. The Bald Eagle defense was able to hold strong as Aitor Ruiz de Eguilaz (Euskadi, Spain/Koldo Mitxelena (Robert Morris)) made five saves and The Haven defense locked down the No. 12 Millersville attack.

In the 70th minute, Austin Kravetz (Altoona, Pa./Altoona) gave LHU an all-important insurance goal after receiving a cross-field assist from Colton Swanson (Bradford, Pa./Bradford) and cutting inside on his right foot to smash a ball past the goalkeeper at the near post. Just minutes later the game was forced into yet another weather delay and this time play was unable to resume and the Bald Eagles came away with the monumental 2-0 victory.

Tonight's win marked LHU's first win over a ranked team since the 2017 season when the Bald Eagles toppled No. 22 West Virginia Wesleyan, just days after beating Millersville, who was then ranked No. 9.

Senior Chase Tackett (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) headed up a Haven defensive effort which stymied a Marauder attack that had scored ten goals in their opening four matches.

UP NEXT:
