LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University field hockey team (1-3, 0-1 A-10) fell, 3-0, this afternoon to VCU (3-2, 1-0 A-10) in the Atlantic 10 Conference (A-10) opener for both teams.
The visiting Rams benefited from a pair of goals from Janne Wetzel. Lynea Gregory added a goal in the win.
For Lock Haven, goalkeeper
Joaquina Orlandini (Concordia, Argentina/San Antonio School) finished with six saves, including a pair of brilliant kick saves.
Martina Spangenberg (Buenos Aires, Argentina/Piaget),
Karina Long (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin),
Anna May Barbusca (Lancaster, Pa./Penn Manor) and
Zhao Rodrigo (Valencia, Spain/Colegio San Bartoleme) turned in strong individual efforts for LHU.
Wetzel opened the scoring with just eight seconds left in the first quarter. VCU took a 2-0 lead behind a 25
th minute goal from Gregory and Wetzel made it 3-0 in the 30
th minute.
Lock Haven will return to action on Sunday, September 19 at 1 p.m. when the Bald Eagles take on Georgetown in Washington, D.C.
