Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Late rally comes up short; Women’s Basketball falls to Bloomsburg

Robinson posts season-high 19 points to lead the Bald Eagle’s offense in tonight’s home contest with visiting Bloomsburg

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. –The Lock Haven University (5-5, 2-4 PSAC) women's basketball team surged late but came up just short against visiting Bloomsburg (5-7, 3-3 PSAC), falling by a 53-50 score in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) matchup on Wednesday evening inside Thomas Fieldhouse. Lock Haven got the scoring started early with a pair of Jaynelle Robinson (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport (Monroe CC)) layups to kick-start the offense and give the Bald Eagles a quick 4-0 advantage.  After the early Lock Haven run, the Huskies controlled the remainder of the opening stanza and owned a 15-6 lead after a quarter of action. In the second quarter, the two teams traded scores throughout before an Ahnera Parker (Lancaster, Pa./J.P. McCaskey) layup kick-started a 7-2 run by the Crimson and White to end the first half. Following the Parker bucket, a pair of Jackie Fetsko (Marion Center, Pa./Marion Center) free throws and a three-pointer from Selena Mann (Boalsburg, Pa./Boalsburg (Saint Joseph's)) allowed the Bald Eagles to trim the gap back to single-digits at a 28-21 tally with 72 ticks to play in the first half. Bloomsburg knocked in a jumper in the final seconds of the half and took a 30-21 lead into the break.  Out of the intermission, the Bald Eagles started the second half in the same way they started the first. Robinson used an easy layup to trim the gap to seven points, 30-23. Over the rest of a cold-shooting third quarter, both teams traded buckets and Bloomsburg held on to a 43-37 lead entering the final quarter. Bloomsburg used a 7-0 run to push its lead back to double figures at a 52-41 score with 5:18 to play before Lock Haven made a final push. Brooke Lawyer (Hanover, Pa./Delone Catholic) buried a jumper with 3:41 to play and bookended a 9-0 run with a pair of free throws to bring the score to 52-50 with 57 seconds to play.  Following a turnover at both ends, Bloomsburg converted the front-end of a pair of free throws and the Bald Eagles couldn't convert on a last second shot and the Huskies survived for a 53-50 victory.  Robinson led the way for the Bald Eagles with a season-high 19 points on 7-of-10 shooting. The Williamsport, Pa. native also added 14 rebounds to tally a double-double. Parker also posted a double-double with 11 points and 12 boards.

Prior to tonight's game, LHU Athletics honored Parker after she surpassed the 1,000 career points mark during last week's road win over Clarion.
