EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. – The Lock Haven men's soccer team (5-6-3, 3-3-3 PSAC East)
took on East Stroudsburg (6-7-1, 5-3-1 PSAC East) in a crucial Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division battle with playoff implications hanging in the balance. The Warriors took the contest 1-0 behind a late goal.
East Stroudsburg was on the front foot for most of the first half with seven corners and nine shots in the first half. The two sides attempted 12 total shots in the first 45 minutes, but the score held level at 0-0.
As the second half ticked on it seemed neither side was going to find the back of the net until the 86
th minute when Abdulla Nuredini put a shot in the top right corner to give ESU a 1-0 lead.
Aitor Ruiz de Eguilaz (Euskadi, Spain/Koldo Mitxelena (Robert Morris)) made five saves in goal for the Bald Eagles. Eguilaz faced 16 Warriors shots as ESU held a 16-14 edge in shots.
In the second half,
Dean Lewis (Belfast, Northern Ireland/Model Boys School) looked to have grabbed a Bald Eagle goal, but it was called back for offsides. Lewis finished the game with five shots and two on goal.
Samuel Hershey (Lancaster, Pa./McCaskey) as well as
Duc Do (New Oxford, Pa./New Oxford) both fired a shot on goal.
