Tennis records Sunday Sweep, downs Susquehanna & Penn College

The Lock Haven tennis team picked up a pair of dual wins Sunday as the Bald Eagles down visiting Susquehanna before blanking Penn College.

LOCK HAVEN, Pa.– On Sunday, the Lock Haven women's tennis team (4-1) hosted a pair of non-conference dual matches and the Bald Eagles came away with a pair of dominating victories. The Haven rolled by Susquehanna (0-5), 7-2 and blanked Penn College (0-2), 9-0.  

Lock Haven 7 – Susquehanna 2

Lock Haven started the day off against the River Hawks and No. 1 doubles action saw Maddy Reeves (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville (Shippensburg)) and Mia Shuler (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport) shut out their opponents, winning 6-0. In the No. 3 doubles match, Christy McLean (Jim Thorpe, Pa/Jim Thorpe) and Olivia Sharp (York, Pa/York County School of Technology) rolled from the start and grabbed the 6-4 win.

In singles play, Reeves continued her dominance, winning her No. 1 singles match, 6-0 & 6-3. Shuler added another win for the Bald Eagles in her No. 2 singles match with a score of 6-3 and 6-3.

Olivia Anastos (Lock Haven, Pa./Central Mountain (Cal. (Pa.))) secured a victory in a nail-biting tiebreaker, winning the No. 3 singles match 2-6, 6-3, and 12-10. 

McLean swept the No. 5 singles match with a perfect 6-0 and 6-0 victory. Mary Kathryn Hillman (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport (Penn College)) finished out the match with a 6-4 and 6-2 victory in the No. 6 singles match to secure the 7-2 team win for the Bald Eagles.

The second dual match of the afternoon saw the Bald Eagles sweep every match against the Wildcats.  

In doubles action, Reeves and Shuler teamed up for the 6-0 victory. Anastos and Hillman joined them in victory with their own 6-0 shutout in the No. 2 doubles match. McLean and Sharp finished out doubles, winning the No. 3 doubles match, 6-2. 

Reeves was perfect on the day, winning her last match as the No. 1 singles player, 6-0 and 6-1. Shuler and Anastos won their respective No. 2 and 3 singles matches by identical 6-0, 6-0 scores.  

McLean continued the winning streak for the Bald Eagles, taking home the No. 4 singles match, 6-3, 6-1. 

Hillman saw a close contest, but she claimed victory in the No. 5 singles match, winning 3-6, 6-1, and 10-6. Sharp finished out the afternoon for Lock Haven, taking home the final No. 6 singles match, 6-1, 6-3. 

The Bald Eagles doubleheader saw five members of the team go undefeated (*singles and doubles) on the afternoon, with Reeves, Shuler, and McLean taking home a 4-0 record and Sharp and Hillman achieving 3-0 records.

The Bald Eagles will return to action at the Bloomsburg Invitational, a two-day event set to begin on Saturday, October 15.
