LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University women's tennis team (5-1, 1-0 PSAC) returned to play today and opened the spring portion of the 2022-23 schedule at home with a dominating 7-0 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) victory over Shepherd (2-9, 0-3 PSAC).
Today's match at home on the LHU tennis courts ushered in a new era for the Bald Eagles as it marked the first under the direction of newly-appointed head coach Pete Wert. Wert was named Lock Haven's new tennis coach on Jan. 19.
Maddy Reeves (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville),
Mia Shuler (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport),
Olivia Anastos (Lock Haven, Pa./Central Mountain),
Delani Wolever (Northumberland, Pa./Shikellamy),
Mary Kathryn Hillman (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport), and
Christy McLean (Jim Thorpe, Pa./Jim Thorpe) all recorded individual wins as the Bald Eagles swept singles play.
Playing at No. 1 singles, Reeves defeated Ximena Bolanos, 7-6, 6-1.
Shuler won 6-2, 6-4 at No. 2 singles and Anastos won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 3 singles.
Wolever picked up a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 4 singles, and Hillman won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5 singles. McLean (No. 6) won by forfeit for Lock Haven.
In doubles play, Anastos and McLean soared to a 6-0 victory at No. 2 doubles.
Today was the first match for the Bald Eagles since they wrapped up fall play on Oct. 9 with a win over Penn College. Lock Haven was 4-1 during the fall with wins over Penn College, Penn State Altoona, Lycoming, and Susquehanna.
