Baseball drops road matchup at No. 17 Seton Hill

The LHU baseball team dropped a tight matchup on the road to nationally-ranked Seton Hill.

GREENSBURG, Pa. – The Lock Haven University baseball team (7-16) dropped a nine-inning showdown to No. 17 Seton Hill (16-4-1), 7-6, as the Bald Eagles nearly took down the nationally-ranked Griffins.

In the top of the first, Joe Shannon's (Warminster, Pa./William Tennent (Mercer CC)) RBI-single to right drove in Gavin Troutman (Boyertown, Pa./Oley Valley). Blaise Zeiders (Selinsgrove, Pa./Selinsgrove) doubled the score with a sacrifice fly, bringing in Justin Lichtenwalner (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) to give LHU a 2-0 lead.

The Griffins kept the batter's box warm in the bottom of the inning with a two-run blast and a pair of RBI hits to take the lead at 4-2.

In the top of the third, Shannon's hot day continued with an RBI double to score Jake Mastillo (Roaring Brook Twp, Pa./North Pocono) to cut the lead to one. Shannon also started the fifth with a two-run double to give LHU the lead at 5-4.

Seton Hill responded in the bottom of the fifth to reclaim the lead at 7-5.

In the top of the seventh, Mastillo cut the lead back to one at 7-6, but the Bald Eagles would get no closer and Seton Hill brought home the 7-6 win.

Lock Haven outhit the Griffins behind Shannon's four hit, four RBI day, which ties his career-high in both. Mastillo extended his hitting streak to six with two extra-base hits.

LHU's starter, Aedan Walter (Milford, Pa./Delaware Valley), threw four innings, while not allowing an earned run and striking out four. Garrett Starr (DuBois, Pa./DuBois) finished out the afternoon for the Bald Eagles with three shutout innings.
