Softball hosts “Knock MS Out of the Park” series, drops doubleheader to Kutztown

The LHU softball team competed in conference action during its annual Knock MS Out of the Park series.

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University softball team (11-12, 2-4 PSAC East) hosted their annual Knock MS Out of the Park series in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division play as Kutztown (22-10, 3-1 PSAC East) took the afternoon, winning game one, 5-0, and game two, 7-3.  

Game 1: L, Kutztown 5, Lock Haven 0 

The Golden Bears started the first with their first four batters reaching base and scoring three times. In the top of the fifth, KU followed up with a pair of RBI-doubles to take game one, 5-0. 

The Bald Eagles collected five hits, with two batters, Bella Schmitt (Dillsburg, Pa./Northern York) and Haley Lestician (Lawrenceville, N.J./Lawrence), achieving multi-hit games. Rianna Trexler (Bellefonte, Pa./Bellefonte) delivered the other hit. 

Kutztown's Bridget Bailey pitched a complete game and struck out nine batters. The senior picked up her PSAC-leading 12th win of the season. 
 

Game 2: L, Kutztown 7, Lock Haven 3 

The Golden Bears returned to action in game two by scoring a run in each of the first three innings, including a solo blast to take a 3-0 advantage.  

In the bottom of the third, Delaney Good (Mifflinburg, Pa./Mifflinburg) drove in Riley McClellan (Granville Summit, Pa./Troy) for the first run for the Bald Eagles. McClellan previously who landed on base with a triple. 

Kutztown responded in the top of the fourth with another RBI single to bring its lead back to 4-1.  

With a sacrifice fly by Sydney Arrigale (Blackwood, N.J./Highland Regional), Good scored to make the score. Summer Peters (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) scored off an error to diminish the Golden Bears's lead to just one. 

In the top of the sixth, Kutztown knocked home its third RBI single of the game to strengthen the lead to 5-3. The last inning of offense saw two more insurance runs scored to move the score at 7-3, cementing the Golden Bears's sweep of the afternoon.
