ELKINS, W.Va. – The Lock Haven University volleyball team (0-2) opened the 2022 season at the Top Hat Classic hosted by Davis & Elkins and fell short to both Elizabeth City State and the hosts Davis & Elkins on opening day of the two-day tournament.

Match 1 vs. ECSU: L (1-3) (25-21, 25-18, 15-25 & 25-22)

Lock Haven came out strong in the first set of the year, but eventually fell by a 25-21 score. In the second set, Elizabeth City State took control early and pulled away for the 25-18 win. The Bald Eagles bounced back and picked up an impressive win in the third set by a 25-15 score, however The Haven's comeback bid came up just short as the Vikings brought home the fourth set and the match with a 25-22 win.

Emma Kelly (Cypress, Texas/Cypress Ranch) led the Bald Eagles in kills as she totaled 15 for the match. On the defensive end, Kelly added 14 digs.

Kelly Gaston (Centennial, Colo./Grandview) controlled the floor Lock Haven as she collected 29 assists over the four sets.

Match 2 vs. D&E: L (0-3) (25-17, 25-15 & 25-17)

The Bald Eagles dropped their second match of the day to the host in straight sets. Davis & Elkins jumped out early and took home the first set 25-17 and used the momentum to take all three from The Haven.

Gabriela Fialova (Ledec nad Sazavou, Czech Republic/ (Indian River)) led the Bald Eagles with eight kills and she also notched 14 digs, defensively.

Gaston added another 20 assists and also chipped in 13 digs of her own.
Evie Jane Rembold (Lock Haven, Pa./Central Mountain) added six kills on the offensive side for LHU.

The Haven will wrap up day two at Davis and Elkins with a 9 a.m. matchup versus Glenville State followed by Virginia State at 3 p.m.
