Field Hockey bounces back, remains unbeaten at home

The LHU field hockey team picked up a 1-0 non-conference win over Saint Francis on Sunday afternoon.

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven field hockey team (8-1) used a first-period penalty stroke to take down Saint Francis (1-8), 1-0, on Sunday afternoon at Charlotte E. Smith Field in non-conference action.

With the win, the Bald Eagles move to 8-1, and a perfect 7-0 on Charlotte E. Smith Field.

After an even first period, the Bald Eagles were awarded a penalty stroke with just two minutes remaining in the quarter. Redshirt-junior defender Jazmin Palma (Entre Rios Providence Argentina/Colegio Sagrado Corazon de Jesus) stepped up to take the shot for the Bald Eagles and calmly dispatched it past the keeper.
The 1-0 lead from Palma's penalty stroke proved to be the only action on the scoreboard, and the Bald Eagles stout defensive effort held Saint Francis in check to preserve the shutout win for LHU.

In goal, Kelsey Felix (Hallam, Pa./Eastern York) made four saves in keeping the clean sheet.

In front of Felix on the backline, Megan Beppler (West Pittston, Pa./Wyoming Area), Ellie Mead (Chesterfield, Va./Cosby (Coker)), Florance de Kroon (Driebergen-Rijsenburg, Netherlands/ Jordan Montessori Lyceum Utrecht) and Palma were all instrumental in keeping the Red Flash at bay.

Brooke Hofsass (Hershey, Pa./Lower Dauphin) and Martina Spangenberg (Buenos Aries, Argentina/Piaget) also put in notable efforts in controlling the field for the Bald Eagles.

In total, Lock Haven outshot Saint Francis 13-7, and held a slight 5-4 advantage in penalty corners.
