DAVIDSON, N.C. – The Lock Haven field hockey team (9-1, 2-1 A-10) soared to a 3-1 victory over Davidson (3-7, 0-3 A-10) in Atlantic 10 (A-10) Conference action on Saturday afternoon.
The Bald Eagles got things rolling just five minutes in when
Ellie Mead (Chesterfield, Va./Cosby (Coker)) knocked home a goal off an assist from
Amy Stevens (Castle Creek, N.Y./Whitney Point) on a well-worked corner routine to hand Lock Haven the 1-0 lead.
Martina Spangenberg (Buenos Aries, Argentina/Piaget) kept the party going in the second quarter when she converted a breakaway to double the Bald Eagle advantage.
Spangenberg added her second goal of the game, and her team-high sixth of the year, in the third period as the Bald Eagles once again connected on a penalty corner. Stevens was involved and again picked up the assist for The Haven.
The Wildcats grabbed a fourth-quarter goal to cut the Lock Haven lead to 3-1, but The Haven kept its two-goal lead intact and cruised home with the 3-1 win.
In total, Davidson led Lock Haven 12-8 in shots, but
Kelsey Felix (Hallam, Pa./Eastern York) stood tall in goal and notched six saves to preserve the lead.
Offensively, The Haven was efficient and converted their six shots on goal into three goals, including two off corners.
Mead's goal from the backline led the defense, as
Megan Beppler (West Pittston, Pa./Wyoming Area),
Jazmin Palma (Entre Rios Providence Argentina/Colegio Sagrado Corazon de Jesus) and
Florance de Kroon (Driebergen-Rijsenburg, Netherlands/ Jordan Montessori Lyceum Utrecht) all turned in strong efforts to anchor the defensive effort.

The Haven gets right back on the field tomorrow and continues their North Carolina road trip with a non-conference matchup against Appalachian State. That contest is set for a 1 p.m. start.
