WILMINGTON, Del. – The Lock Haven University men's soccer team (2-3) racked up another five goals in a 5-1 win over Goldey-Beacom College (0-5) on Wednesday night in non-conference action at Fusco Field at the Delaware Military Institute.
In the 28
th minute,
Samuel Hershey (Lancaster, Pa./McCaskey) got back on the scoreboard after his hat-trick on Saturday. Hershey picked up an assist from
Davis Dull (Altoona, Pa./Blair County Christian) and put away a tidy finish to hand LHU the 1-0 lead.
Just before halftime,
Dean Lewis (Belfast, Northern Ireland/Model Boys School) extended the lead to 2-0 after knocking home a corner kick from
Eion Roman (Pennsauken, N.J./Pennsauken).
Out of the halftime break, Goldey-Beacom drew a goal back, but LHU rattled off three goals in the final 30 minutes.
Connor Swope (Dillsburg, Pa./Northern York) finished off a goal mouth scramble to push Lock Haven ahead 3-1, followed shortly by Lewis's second goal of the game after a cross from
Colton Swanson (Bradford, Pa./Bradford). Roman put the icing on the cake in the 79
th minute after pouncing on a loose ball to see LHU gain the 5-1 advantage, which held until the final whistle.
For the sophomore Roman, his goal and assist mark the first in his Bald Eagle career.
Brady Freiwald (Altoona, Pa./Altoona) started the opening half in goal for LHU and was forced into just one save in his scoreless half.
Aitor Ruiz de Eguilaz (Euskadi, Spain/Koldo Mitxelena (Robert Morris)) played the final 45 minutes and made four saves as the Lightning pressed forward in search of goals.
Defensively,
Connor Burke (Schnecksville, Pa./Parkland) and
Gabe Leach (Wellsboro, Pa./Bethany College) started and played all 90 minutes for the Bald Eagles.
The Lightning held a slight 6-5 advantage in shots on goal, but the clinical shooting of the Bald Eagles left the goalkeeper helpless as LHU capitalized to find the net five times, and an incredible 14 times in the space of two games.
