Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men’s soccer falls in road matchup with West Chester

The LHU men’s soccer team opened the PSAC East schedule on the road against West Chester on Saturday afternoon.

WEST CHESTER, Pa. – The Lock Haven University men's soccer team (2-4, 0-1 PSAC East) opened the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division schedule with a road match against West Chester University (5-1, 2-0 PSAC East), but fell 2-0 on Saturday afternoon.

Riding a two-game win streak which featured 14 goals, the Bald Eagles offense was slowed in the first half as the two teams played a scoreless opening 45 minutes. The Golden Rams fired five shots on target to the Bald Eagles one in the opening half, but in goal Aitor Ruiz de Eguilaz (Euskadi, Spain/Koldo Mitxelena (Robert Morris)) was wise to the attempts and made five saves to keep the match tied.

The defensive battle continued in the second half as neither side could find the back of the net until the 69th minute when West Chester broke the deadlock to take the 1-0 lead. The Golden Rams tacked on another in the 86th minute as the Bald Eagles searched for a game-tying goal and WCU closed out the remaining minutes with the 2-0 win.

LHU fired off six shots in the second half, led by Dean Lewis (Belfast, Northern Ireland/Model Boys School) and Jimmy Pombor (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport) who both notched two apiece.

Ruiz de Eguilaz ended the match for LHU with seven saves in goal, but allowed the two second half goals as West Chester laced nine shots in the second half and ended with 17 total shots.
