LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University men's indoor track and field team returned to action today (Saturday, Jan. 14) after a lengthy layoff, but the Bald Eagles looked to be in strong form as a number of individuals stood out at two different meets.
Lock Haven sent athletes to compete at the Nittany Lion Challenge, hosted by Division I Penn State, and the Bald Eagles competed at the River Hawk Invite, hosted by Susquehanna University. Today's action marked Lock Haven's first competition since opening the 2022-23 indoor season on December 3.
It was standout
Ryan Miller (Bradford, Pa./Bradford) who headlined Lock Haven's all-around brilliant return today. While competing among the elite field at Penn State, he smashed the school record and the PSAC record at 600 meters after turning in a time of 1:20.43. He was fourth out of 14, and the top non-Division I finisher in the event. Miller also ran a solid time of 22.93 in the 200-meter event.
Kirk Stewart (South Park, Pa./South Park) and
Tanner Walter (New Columbia, Pa./Milton) hit Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) championship qualifying marks in the mile at Penn State with runs of 4:27.72 and 4:27.95, respectively.
Andrew Wehrle (Punxsutawney, Pa./ Punxsutawney) showed well in the mile and ran 4:28.68.
Austin Kravetz (Altoona, Pa./Altoona) hit a PSAC mark in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.63 and
Michael Lawrence (Blakeslee, Pa./Pocono Mountain West) rounded out Lock Haven's strong outing at Penn State with a PSAC mark in the triple jump event, thanks to a leap of 42-11.5.
At Susquehanna,
Chase Young (Mill Hall, Pa./Central Mountain) jumped to a PSAC mark in the triple jump with a 43-00.25 performance.
Ijae Karlinsey (Alverda, Pa./Penns Manor) was fourth of 18 in the weight throw with a toss of 42-06.75, which pushed close to a PSAC tally.
Ethan Rogers (Hershey, Pa./Hershey) placed second of 15 in the 3,000-meter event with a time of 9:08.00 and
Morgan Gavitt (Hughesville, Pa./Hughesville) ran 2:03.28 - to take third of 35 runners in the 800-meter run at the River Hawk Invite.

Lock Haven will return to action on Friday, Jan. 20 at the YSU Collegiate Invitational, hosted by Youngstown State University in Youngstown, Ohio. The meet will start at 12:30 p.m.
