EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. –
Tom Pombor (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport) and
Jimmy Pombor (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport) combined for three goals to lead the Lock Haven men's soccer team to a crucial 3-2 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East victory over East Stroudsburg on the road on Wednesday night, Oct. 18.
With the victory, the Bald Eagles (5-6-3, 2-4-2 PSAC East) grab three points in the PSAC East postseason race, where they currently trail fourth-place ESU (6-2-5, 2-2-5 PSAC East), 11-8, with four games remaining.
The Warriors jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 23
rd minute and held the advantage until the closing minutes of the first have when the Pombor brothers took over.
Tom Pombor scored his team-leading fifth goal of the season at the 41:32 mark, before
Jimmy Pombor gave the Bald Eagles their first lead just three minutes later, 2-1.
However, ESU connected on the equalizer in the 59
th minute to knot the score at 2-2 with just under 36 minutes to go.
With the chance to steal a win and just under 10 minutes left in regulation,
Tom Pombor struck for his team-leading sixth goal of the season, to give The Haven a 3-2 lead.
The Bald Eagles closed out the final nine minutes without suffering a goal to clinch the PSAC East victory.
Despite facing constant pressure as ESU fired off a game-high 27 shots, Lock Haven goalkeeper
Brady Freiwald (Altoona, Pa./Altoona) was electric in goal, making eight saves in the 90 minutes to earn the victory.
Tom Pombor led the Bald Eagles in shots with four, while
Connor Swope (Dillsburg, Pa./Northern York) fired off three.
