SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.V. –
Tom Pombor and
Jimmy Pombor (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport) connected for the game-winning goal and
Brady Freiwald (Altoona, Pa./Altoona) recorded a shutout to lead the Lock Haven men's soccer team to a thrilling 1-0 victory at Shepherd University on Saturday (Oct. 21) in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division action.
With the victory, the Bald Eagles improve to 6-6-3 overall and 3-4-2 in the PSAC East. Winners of their last two conference matches, Lock Haven now has 11 points this season and moves into a tie for fourth place with East Stroudsburg.
Freiwald made two saves and did not allow a goal for his third clean sheet of the season, earning his sixth victory in net.
After a scoreless first half, the Bald Eagles connected on what would prove to be the game winner when
Tom Pombor found the back of the net off an assist from
Jimmy Pombor.
The score marks the second straight Pombor-to-Pombor connection, after the duo also hooked up in the Bald Eagles' 3-2 victory over ESU in their last match.
Tom Pombor, who leads The Haven with seven goals, has five goals in his last five games.
Lock Haven's defense was sensational from start to finish and did not allow a goal despite being outshot, 8-4. Three different Bald Eagles recorded shots on the afternoon.
