LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven volleyball team (10-10, 4-7 PSAC East) fell at home to Shippensburg University (19-8, 10-1 PSAC East), 2-1 (17-25, 27-25, 15-25, 21-25), in a hard-fought Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division contest on Friday night (Nov. 3).
With the loss, Lock Haven remains in a battle for the fourth and final PSAC East postseason spot with Bloomsburg. The Huskies fell to Shepherd tonight, keeping the two schools deadlocked with a 4-7 conference record.
Shippensburg, who clinched the second seed with a 10-1 record, is still vying for the top spot, sitting one game behind East Stroudsburg (11-0).
After falling 25-17 in the opening set, the Bald Eagles rallied to steal the second set 27-25 in extra play. The Bald Eagles totaled 11 kills during the rally, while limiting the Shippensburg attack to a 0.03 hit percentage.
However, the Raiders bounced back with a 25-15 victory in set three before closing out the match by taking the fourth set, 25-21.
Sabrina Valentin (Ovideo, Fla./Paul J. Hagerty) (11),
Reagan Irons (Tyrone, Pa./Tyrone) (eight) and
Evie Jane Rembold (Lock Haven, Pa./Central Mountain) (six) led the Bald Eagles' offense in kills, while Rembold led the defense with an impressive five blocks.
Alyssa Daley (Everett, Pa./Everett) added four blocks.
Kelly Gaston (Centennial, Colo./Grandview) filled the stat sheet with 28 kills, 11 digs, two blocks and two aces.
Natalie Acevedo (Camuy, Puerto Rico/Paula Freire Social Justice Charter School) finished as the team leader in digs with 23, while adding an ace and four assists.
