Women’s Basketball snatches comeback-victory in PSAC opener over UPJ

The Bald Eagles secured their first conference victory of the season in a hard-fought PSAC East-West crossover battle in Thomas Fieldhouse on Friday.

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven women's basketball team fought for the full 40 minutes to come away with its first Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) victory of the season after downing University of Pitt-Johnstown, 59-57, in a clash of East-West opponents inside Thomas Fieldhouse on Friday night (Dec. 1).
 
The Bald Eagles, who are winners of four straight, improve to 4-1 overall and 1-0 in the PSAC. The Mountain Cats fall to 4-2 overall with an 0-1 mark in conference.
 
Rhlyn Rouse (York, Pa./York Tech) was crucial for the Bald Eagles' second unit, finishing with 12 points, six rebounds and two steals, while going 4-of-5 at the charity stripe. Jenadia Jordan (York, Pa./Linden Hall), who hit the shot of the game late in the fourth quarter, added 12 points, six rebounds, two steals and a block.
 
Alana Robinson (Rockaway, N.J./Pope John Paul II) was the Bald Eagles' overall offensive leader, after pouring in a season- and team-high 16 points on 7-of-11 shooting, while adding a team-high seven rebounds, two steals and a block.
 
Brooke Lawyer (Hanover, Pa./Delone Catholic) and Taylor Leidy (Alexandria, Pa./Juniata Valley) dished out a team-high three assists each.
 
Trailing 52-48 with 4:08 left on the clock, the Bald Eagles erupted on a 9-3 run over the ensuing three minutes to take a 55-53 lead with 32 seconds to go. Rouse knocked down a pair of clutch free throws to put the Bald Eagles within one (53-52), before a defensive stop led to a trifecta from Jordan to give Lock Haven its first lead of the quarter.
 
UPJ made its next two shots from the field, but the Bald Eagles went a perfect 4-of-4 from the foul line to seal the victory.
 
The Haven forced 22 UPJ turnovers while only committing 13, leading to a 25-14 advantage in points-off-turnovers. The Bald Eagles recorded a season-high 14 steals.
 
UPJ held the lead for 33 minutes, however, the Bald Eagles were able to halt run-after-run, before finally igniting one of their own.
 
The Mountain Cats outshot the Bald Eagles from the floor, but Lock Haven finished with a game-high 15-of-18 free throws to make up the difference.

The Bald Eagles return to Thomas Fieldhouse tomorrow (Saturday, Dec. 2) to host IUP in a PSAC East-West crossover game.
