BOSTON – The Lock Haven University men's indoor track and field team capped a busy weekend with a strong showing today (Saturday, Feb. 11) with split action at two different meets. The Bald Eagles were in action at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational, hosted by Boston University and Lock Haven also competed at the Gordon Kelly Invitational, hosted by MIT.

Leading the way, among an elite field at Boston's David Hemery Valentine Invitational, was standout Ryan Miller (Bradford, Pa./Bradford) who bolted to a school record in the 400-meter dash with a historic performance. Miller was ninth of 246 runners, but most impressive was his time of 47.85. Already the conference leader in the event, the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) championship qualifying mark broke the LHU school record and stands as an NCAA Division II championship qualifying standard. Miller broke a 13-year old school record and became the first LHU runner to ever break 48 seconds indoors at 400 meters. As of press time, it was the 10th fastest time run this season in Division II.

The meet at Boston University draws a tremendous field each year and is known to produce fast times. Miller along with several teammates took full advantage today.

The Bald Eagles performed well at 800 meters. Morgan Gavitt (Hughesville, Pa./Hughesville) led the way with a sensational run of 1:55.76. Gavitt was one of two PSAC qualifiers in the event as Kirk Stewart (South Park, Pa./South Park) added a conference-championship qualifying mark with a 1:57.13 performance. Aydan Summers (Altoona, Pa./Altoona) just missed qualifying for the PSAC championships after running an impressive 1:58.78.

Gavitt came back and capped a brilliant 800-meter, mile double. He ran a PSAC time of 4:24.86 and Gavin Furey (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport) also ran a strong mile with a PSAC run of 4:24.68.

Matt Reinard (Camp Hill, Pa./Cumberland Valley) and Jimmy Pombor (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport) narrowly missed PSAC marks as each ran well in the 60-meter hurdles (8.92) and 60-meter dash (7.16), respectively. Kylie Scott-Harper (Chester, Pa./Chester) also showed well with a time of 50.76 in the 400m.

The Bald Eagles ran a season-best 3:21.41 in the 4x400-meter relay at Boston U.

Leading the way at MIT was Tanner Walter (New Columbia, Pa./Milton) who placed third in the 5,000-meter run with a PSAC time of 15:47.02. Both Chris Hine (Plains, Pa./Holy Redeemer) and Ethan Rogers (Hershey, Pa./Hershey) also ran PSAC marks in the 5K at MIT. Evan Klinger (Riverside, Pa./Danville) won the 800 and finished second in the mile.

Overall, it's been a busy two days for the Bald Eagles. Yesterday, The Haven competed on Day 1 of the David Hemery Valentine Invitational and the Bald Eagles ran a season-best time in the distance medley relay. Several Lock Haven athletes competed Friday at the River Hawk Friday Night Showdown, hosted by Susquehanna University.

Leading the way yesterday in Boston was the DMR. Lock Haven ran 10:17.06 in the DMR and the season-best performance helped the Bald Eagles finish 22nd of 31 in the event.

Leading the way Friday at Susquehanna was Kevin Taylor (Bellefonte, Pa./Erie County Home Schoolers) who placed third in the pole vault with a mark of 12-11.75.
