Softball Erupts for Historic Offensive Output, Splits Day at Bear Bash II

The Lock Haven softball team returned for the second day of the tournament hosted by Lenoir-Rhyne, and exploded for their most runs in nearly fifty years.

HICKORY, N.C. – The Lock Haven softball team (3-3) competed in the second day of the Bear Bash II hosted by Lenoir-Rhyne and defeated Johnson C. Smith (1-3), 22-1, but dropped game two against the 23rd-ranked hosts Lenoir-Rhyne (15-1), 10-2, on Saturday afternoon. 

Game 1 vs. Johnson C. Smith: W, 22-1 

An explosive start to the afternoon saw a handful of Bald Eagles set their career-highs in a dominating 22-1 victory over the Golden Bulls.  

The 22 runs sit as the most the Bald Eagles have scored in 45 years since the Bald Eagles poured 26 runs on Mansfield in 1978.

Bella Schmitt (Dillsburg, Pa./Northern York) set her career high with five RBI's, smacking a two-run shot and picking up an RBI triple. Senior Sydney Arrigale (Blackwood, N.J./Highland Regional) also set her career high with five RBIs torching the ball with a three-run shot and an RBI double. 

Haley Lestician (Lawrenceville, N.J./Lawrence) tied her career high with three RBIs from two singles. Riley McClellan (Granville Summit, Pa./Troy) also posted three RBIs, smacking a solo home run and an RBI single. 

Delaney Good (Mifflinburg, Pa./Mifflinburg) picked up two RBIs with an RBI triple and Rianna Trexler (Bellefonte, Pa./Bellefonte) also tallied two RBIs with an RBI single. 

Madison Waltman (Turbotville, Pa./Warrior Run) picked up the win by throwing three shutout innings. Keiva Middleton (Willow Street, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) finished the game by pitching for two innings and only allowing only one run. 

Lock Haven combined for 23 hits, with six players reaching multiple RBIs and eight players having multiple hits. Each of the entire starting lineup reached base and scored a run in the historic effort. 

Game 2 vs. #23 Lenoir-Rhyne: L, 10-2 

The nationally ranked hosts began the contest dropping three runs in the bottom of the first inning to take the early lead. 

In the top of the third, Schmitt dropped the first run on the scoreboard for LHU, an RBI single that scored McClellan. Trexler doubled their runs, dropping an RBI single to cut the lead to 3-2. 

Lenoir-Rhyne responded with two more runs in the bottom of the third to increase their lead to 5-2. The Bears added another two runs in the bottom of the of the fourth to strengthen their lead.

The hosts finished off the contest with another three runs in the bottom of the sixth to seal off the 10-2 victory.  

Up Next:
The Bald Eagles will return to action when the team travels to Winter Haven, Florida for the PFX tournament. The team will compete for four days of action, starting on March 10th.
