Lacrosse Opens Season on the Road Against Bloomsburg

The Bald Eagles kicked off the 2023 season on the road against the Huskies on Saturday.

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – The Lock Haven University lacrosse team (0-1) opened their 2023 season on Saturday with a road trip to Bloomsburg University (2-0) for a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East-West crossover battle, but the host Huskies took contest 17-9 behind a strong second quarter.

Bloomsburg opened the scoring in the first quarter, and the two close rivals traded blows early in an evenly-matched opening 15 minutes. Abby Katrinak (Strongsville, Ohio/ Strongsville) found the net three times, including one with three seconds remaining in the period to tie the score at 4-4.

The Huskies took control in the second period and outscored The Haven 7-1 to take an 11-5 lead into the halftime break.

Bloomsburg slowly built their advantage in the third and led 17-5 heading into the final 15 minutes. The Huskies second quarter outburst allowed them to cruise down the stretch and Bloomsburg grabbed the victory 17-9.

Offensively, Katrinak led the way for The Haven and her four goals were tied for a game-high as she opened her 2023 campaign.

Emma Williams (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley) notched two goals of her own, while Josey Shaffer (Westminster, Md./Manchester Valley) and Emma Schiemer (Prince Frederick, Md./Huntingtown) each collected a goal and handed out one assist.

In goal, Dana Mirigliano (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) made her first collegiate start and made 11 saves.

Bloomsburg held a healthy 36-18 in shots and a 19-11 lead in draw controls as the Huskies spoiled the start to the season for LHU.
