Men’s Track & Field Opens Outdoor Season with Individual Victories

The Lock Haven men’s outdoor track and field team opened the season this weekend and the Bald Eagles posted several individual victories.

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Lock Haven University men's outdoor track and field team opened the 2023 season over the last three days (Thurs. – Sat., March 16-18) at the Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
 
Ryan Miller (Bradford, Pa./Bradford) and Morgan Gavitt (Hughesville, Pa./Hughesville) posted individual victories today in seeded races on the third and final day of the three-day season-opening event. Miller won the seeded 400-meter dash and Gavitt won the seeded 800-meter run.
 
Miller ran 48.22 at 400 meters and topped the field with the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) championship qualifying mark. He capped a strong double by returning to run 22.30 in the 200-meter dash. His PSAC championship qualifying time was good enough to finish fifth today at 200 meters.
 
Gavitt cruised to victory at 800 meters with a sensational outdoor season-opening time of 1:54.97.
 
In the seeded mile, Andrew Wehrle (Punxsutawney, Pa./ Punxsutawney) and Gavin Furey (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport) ran impressive times of 4:24.93 and 4:25.98, respectively.
 
Evan Klinger (Riverside, Pa./Danville) hit a PSAC qualifying mark of 10:19.73 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. He was seventh in the race.
 
Yesterday, Matt Reinard (Camp Hill, Pa./Cumberland Valley) and Austin Kravetz (Altoona, Pa./Altoona) ran PSAC qualifying marks in the 110-meter hurdles with times of 15.62 and 15.98, respectively.
 
Michael Lawrence (Blakeslee, Pa./Pocono Mountain West) ran a PSAC qualifying time of 11.07 in the 100-meter dash.
 
Kirk Stewart (South Park, Pa./South Park) and Vincent Fennell (Pottstown, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) finished first and third yesterday in the men's open mile with times of 4:33.33 and 4:38.15, respectively.
 
The meet opened Thursday and Noah Spayd (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin East) stood out in the 10,000-meter run (34:55.24).
 
Up Next for Lock Haven:
The Bald Eagles will return to action on Friday and Saturday, March 24-25 at the two-day Jim Taylor Invitational hosted by Susquehanna University.
