LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University softball team used 18 hits and powered its way to a lopsided 18-2 victory in just five innings in game one today at home over Pitt-Johnstown (6-8). The game-one win helped the Bald Eagles earn the split in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East-West crossover.
UPJ won game two, 8-6.
With the split, The Haven is now 10-8 overall on the season.
Lock Haven won game one 18-2 (5 inn.).
In game one, The Haven bats soared at the plate. LHU racked up 18 runs on 18 hits including three doubles.
LHU used a nine-run fourth-inning to jump out to an 18-0 lead. Highlighting the offensive surge was
Sydney Arrigale (Blackwood, N.J./Highland Regional), who hit a grand slam in the fourth. Overall, she was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and four RBIs to lead the way at the plate.
Delaney Good (Mifflinburg, Pa./Mifflinburg),
Riley McClellan (Granville Summit, Pa./Troy),
Summer Peters (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg),
Rianna Trexler (Bellefonte, Pa./Bellefonte), and
Kerri McCallum (Havertown, Pa./Haverford) all had strong plate performances in the huge win.
Good was 4-for-4 with four runs scored and McClellan was 2-for-2 with four runs and an RBI. Peters went 2-for-2 with three runs scored and three RBIs. Trexler had two hits and three RBIs and McCallum was 3-for-3 with two runs, and she drove in a run.
Pitcher
Jada Schellhammer (Tamaqua, Pa./Tamaqua) recorded the game-one victory after scattering seven hits over five innings. She struck out three and surrendered just one walk.
Visiting UPJ won game two, 8-6.
Good scored three runs for Lock Haven and McClellan was 2-for-3 with a double. Trexler and
Haley Lestician (Lawrenceville, N.J./Lawrence) both recorded two-hit games in game two.
Pitcher
Kinley Gioglio (Stroudsburg, Pa./Stroudsburg) threw well in relief and finished with five strikeouts in the final 3 and 2/3 innings.
Trailing 8-4, the Bald Eagles rallied for a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh, but they couldn't come all the way back as they split today's non-conference doubleheader at home, the second home doubleheader in as many days.
Yesterday (Tues.), Lock Haven played host to Shippensburg in both The Haven's 2023 home-opener and PSAC East opener. Visiting-Ship edged out LHU in both games.

The Bald Eagles will now hit the road for a pair of PSAC East doubleheaders. LHU will open the weekend on Friday, March 24 at West Chester (2/4 p.m.) and Lock Haven is set to take on Kutztown Saturday, March 25 (1/3 p.m.).
