WEST CHESTER, Pa. – The Lock Haven University softball team (11-9, 1-3 PSAC East) picked up a game-two victory and split a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division doubleheader at West Chester (13-10, 1-1 PSAC East) this afternoon.
The Golden Rams won game one, 8-4, but Lock Haven rallied in game two, and edged out the hosts, 4-3.
Lock Haven dropped game one, 8-4 despite a pair home runs from the Bald Eagles. In all, Lock Haven scored four runs on six hits and West Chester claimed victory with eight runs on 11 hits.
The hosts struck quick and led 3-0 after the first inning. Trailing 3-0 in the bottom of the fourth, LHU mounted a comeback and took a 4-3 lead after home runs from
Haley Lestician (Lawrenceville, N.J./Lawrence) and
Kerri McCallum (Havertown, Pa./Haverford).
With one out, Lestician hit a two-run home run to center and the cut the WCU lead in half at 4-2. Then, with two outs - McCallum blasted a two-run homer to left, and put The Haven up, 4-3.
West Chester responded however and used a five-run inning in the sixth to claim the 8-3 game-one win.
Trailing late in game two, Lock Haven rallied for two runs in the top of the seventh and final inning, and the late-game magic helped the Bald Eagles win 4-3 and earn the important PSAC East split.
For LHU, the four game-two runs came on nine hits.
Summer Peters (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) was 2-for-4 with a run scored, two RBIs, and a double. Lestician hit well again and finished game two 3-for-4 with an RBI.
Madison Waltman (Turbotville, Pa./Warrior Run) earned the win from the circle. She struck out two, walked two, and scattered eight hits.
In the seventh inning, Peters' RBI-double tied the game at 3-3, and Lestician drove in the winning-run on a single up the left side.
Schedule Change:
Lock Haven and Kutztown have announced another schedule change. The PSAC East doubleheader has once again been postponed. The games are
postponed for tomorrow (Monday, March 27) because of the weather forecast, and moved to Wednesday, March 29 at Kutztown at 1 p.m.
Up Next for Lock Haven:
The Bald Eagles will return to action on Tuesday, March 28 when they make the short trip north for a PSAC East doubleheader with Mansfield.
