LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University softball team (13-11, 3-5 PSAC East) swept visiting Mansfield University (9-11, 0-8 PSAC East) today in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division action. The Bald Eagles won 12-9 in a game-one slugfest and completed the sweep with a 4-0 win in game two which was fueled by a quick start.
Lock Haven won a hard-hitting, high-scoring game one, 12-9. The Bald Eagles scored 12 runs on 15 hits, and Mansfield scored nine runs on 12 hits.
Riley McClellan (Granville Summit, Pa./Troy) drove in three runs and
Delaney Good (Mifflinburg, Pa./Mifflinburg) had two hits and two runs scored.
Summer Peters (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) had two hits and
Bella Schmitt (Dillsburg, Pa./Northern York) was 2-for-4 with two runs scored, and an RBI.
Kerri McCallum (Havertown, Pa./Haverford) rounded out the stellar plate performances with a 3-for-4 outing. McCallum scored one run and drove in three.
Pitcher
Keiva Middleton (Willow Street, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) entered late and picked up the win after one and 2/3 innings. She struck out three and didn't allow a hit.
Lock Haven held a 9-5 lead, but Mansfield responded in a big way in the sixth inning. The visitors plated four and tied the game at 9-9, but the Bald Eagles responded quickly, thanks to three runs in the bottom of the sixth. It was the heroics of McClellan that provided the ultimate difference maker. Her double drove in three runs to put The Haven up 12-9, a lead that carried the Bald Eagles to the game-one win.
LHU won game two, 4-0 and the victory was powered by a quick start that saw the Bald Eagles take a 3-0 lead after the first inning. A stellar effort in the pitching circle also carried The Haven to victory.
Good was once again sensational at the plate. She finished with three hits (3-for-4) and an RBI.
Rianna Trexler (Bellefonte, Pa./Bellefonte) had a pair of hits in game two.
Pitcher
Madison Waltman (Turbotville, Pa./Warrior Run) went the distance on the way to the complete-game, shutout-victory in the circle. She allowed just four hits over seven innings and recorded a noteworthy seven strikeouts.
