Softball Opens Weekend Homestand

Bald Eagles host annual “Knock MS Out of the Park” Doubleheader Friday.

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University softball team (18-18, 8-12 PSAC East) opened a weekend homestand today (Fri.) with a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division doubleheader versus West Chester University (29-12, 17-3 PSAC East). West Chester held off LHU, 5-2, in a nine-inning, extra-inning thriller in game one, and the Golden Rams won game two, 5-2.

Game 1 Recap: West Chester 5 – Lock Haven 2 (9 innings)
 
In game one today, Lock Haven and West Chester locked up in a nine-inning thriller, and in the end, the visiting Golden Rams snuck away with a 5-2 win after scoring three runs in the top of the ninth.
 
WCU scored its five runs on nine hits and Lock Haven plated two runs on four hits.
 
The Bald Eagles took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first, thanks to a Haley Lestician (Lawrenceville, N.J./Lawrence) RBI-single up the middle that scored Delaney Good (Mifflinburg, Pa./Mifflinburg).
 
Trailing 2-1 in the fourth, Riley McClellan (Granville Summit, Pa./Troy) tied the game on a sacrifice fly.
 
In the end, West Chester broke up the tight clash in the ninth.
 
Game 2 Recap: West Chester 5 – Lock Haven 2
 
Good, a candidate for Division II National Player of the Year, went 3-for-4 with a run scored in game two. She now has 62 hits on the season and has cracked Lock Haven's all-time top-10 for a single season.
 
McClellan had two hits in game two. She was 2-for-3 with a run scored.
 
Trailing 4-0, Maci Brodzina (Warriors Mark, Pa./Tyrone Area) drove in a run in the fourth, and Summer Peters (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) hit a double in the seventh that scored Good as they looked to help spark a Haven rally.
 
Game two pitchers Kinley Gioglio (Stroudsburg, Pa./Stroudsburg) and Keiva Middleton (Willow Street, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) combined for six strikeouts.

Up Next for Lock Haven // Schedule Change:
The Bald Eagles were scheduled to be right back in action tomorrow (Saturday, April 15) vs. Kutztown University, but the PSAC East doubleheader has been postponed, and moved to Sunday, April 16 (1/3 p.m.).
