Softball Celebrates Senior Day with Walk-Off Win in Game 1

Bald Eagles celebrate Senior Day 2023, earn thrilling walk-off win in game one today vs. Kutztown.

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University softball team (19-19, 9-13 PSAC East) split a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division doubleheader with visiting Kutztown University (18-18, 12-8 PSAC East) today (Sunday). The Bald Eagles celebrated Senior Day with a thrilling 4-3 walk-off win in game one, but Lock Haven dropped game two, 7-4.

Prior to game one today, the Bald Eagles honored their lone graduating senior - Rianna Trexler (Bellefonte, Pa./Bellefonte)

Game 1 Recap: Lock Haven 4 – Kutztown 3

With one out in the bottom of the seventh, Haley Lestician (Lawrenceville, N.J./Lawrence) provided the game's biggest moment as she drove in the game-winning run with a single up the middle as the Bald Eagles walked off in thrilling fashion.

Kinley Gioglio (Stroudsburg, Pa./Stroudsburg) entered the game to pitch in relief and picked up the victory after three solid innings of work. She allowed just one hit, walked one and struck out one over the final three innings.

Delaney Good (Mifflinburg, Pa./Mifflinburg) finished game one with two hits, as did Bella Schmitt (Dillsburg, Pa./Northern York), Morgan Karasek (Bangor, Pa./Bangor) and Lestician. Good drove in a pair of runs as well to spark the Bald Eagles' game-one offense.

With the game tied 3-3 in the bottom of the seventh, Riley McClellan (Granville Summit, Pa./Troy) reached first on a passed ball, before stealing second. Summer Peters (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) laid down a perfect sacrifice bunt to move McClellan to third, and moments later Lestician got the job done at the plate, and sent the Bald Eagles off as game-one winners in style.

Game 2 Recap: Kutztown 7 – Lock Haven 4

With game two tied 4-4, Kutztown used a three-run sixth inning to secure the split.

Peters was 2-for-4 with two runs scored, and Lestician drove in a pair of runs in game two.

Trailing 4-3, Lock Haven tied the game 4-4 in the bottom of the fourth inning when a McClellan single up the middle scored Karasek.
