LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Lock Haven University men's outdoor track and field team turned in a strong two days (Sat. – Sun., April 15-16) at the Bucknell Bison Outdoor Classic. The meet included nearly 150 collegiate and club teams making it one of the largest meets of the weekend and the 2023 season.
It was a number of individual efforts that led the way for the Bald Eagles, several of which led to season-best, personal-best, and Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championship qualifying marks.
Justice Shoats (Wilkes Barre, Pa./Holy Redeemer) turned in a remarkable two-day effort. He was second in the high jump today with mark of 6-08.00 (#PSAC). He was second of 30-plus in the field and his mark is the second-best in the high jump this season in the PSAC.
Today, he also ran to a PSAC qualifying mark in the 100-meter dash (10.99), and yesterday (Sat.), Shoats was eighth in the long jump with a PSAC leap of 22-11.75.
Morgan Gavitt (Hughesville, Pa./Hughesville) ran a sensational race at 800 meters today and
Ryan Miller (Bradford, Pa./Bradford) once again impressed in the 400-meter dash.
Gavitt finished 33
rd of 195 in the men's 800m, but more impressive was his time of 1:53.59. The PSAC mark is the fifth fastest time in Lock Haven history and one of the best 800-meter Haven efforts in nearly two decades.
Miller finished ninth of 100-plus in the 400m with another quick time of 48.28 (#PSAC).
Kylie Scott-Harper (Chester, Pa./Chester) added a PSAC mark in the 400m with a personal-best time of 50.36.
Matt Reinard (Camp Hill, Pa./Cumberland Valley) ran one of the top times in the PSAC this season in the 400-meter hurdles. His big personal-best time of 54.62 is the third-best time this season in the conference and helped him finish eighth today in a stacked field.
Michael Lawrence (Blakeslee, Pa./Pocono Mountain West) added a PSAC run in the 100-meter dash (10.95).
Nathan Fetchkan (Newville, Pa./Big Spring) and
Nathan Govern (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) recorded PSAC marks in the hammer throw with efforts of 147-00.00 and 146-04.00, respectively.
Saturday night,
Tanner Walter (New Columbia, Pa./Milton) and
Ethan Rogers (Hershey, Pa./Hershey) stood out for Lock Haven.
Walter ran a huge personal-best time and a PSAC time of 15:09.40 to finish seventh in the 5,000-meter run. Rogers hit a PSAC mark in the 10,000-meter run with a time of 33:12.56.

The Bald Eagles will return to action on Wednesday, April 19 as they head to the Shippensburg Mid-Week Invitational. Lock Haven is also scheduled to return to Bucknell as The Haven is set for action at Saturday's (April 22) Bucknell Team Challenge.
