Shoats Breaks Long Jump Record; Haven Men Dominate at Ship

The Lock Haven men’s track and field team dominated the field behind strong individual efforts today. Justice Shoats broke a 46-year old school record in the long jump.

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – Freshman-standout Justice Shoats (Wilkes Barre, Pa./Holy Redeemer) broke a long-standing school record and he was one three individual winners for the Bald Eagles as the Lock Haven University men's outdoor track and field team dominated the field today at Shippensburg University's Mid-Week Invitational.
 
Shoats' record-breaking effort in the long jump highlighted a stellar day for the Bald Eagle. His mark of 24-05.5 in the long jump topped the field today, and broke a 46-year old Lock Haven men's outdoor track and field record. Shoats' effort today bested Ben Omiegbe's mark of 24-05, set back in 1977. For Shoats, the mark of 24-05.5 hit a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) championship qualifying mark and it's the second-best mark - to date this season in the PSAC. It's also an NCAA Division II championship qualifying mark and ranks 14th in Division II, to date.
 
Shoats wasn't done there as he also ran a respectable 11.16 in the 100-meter dash and he showed well at 200 meters. To round it out today, he was a member of Lock Haven's second-place (42.66) 4x100-meter relay team.
 
Ryan Miller (Bradford, Pa./Bradford) and Austin Kravetz (Altoona, Pa./Altoona) also posted individual victories, and the Bald Eagles took first in the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 3:18.76.
 
The Haven dominated the 200-meter dash behind R. Miller's victory. He ran 22.10, a PSAC mark, for the win and he was one of six Bald Eagles in the top-10 of 35 total sprinters in the event.
 
In the 200m, Michael Lawrence (Blakeslee, Pa./Pocono Mountain West) was fourth (22.59), Brennan Miller (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Mechanicsburg) was fifth (22.68), Kylie Scott-Harper (Chester, Pa./Chester) was sixth (22.73), Shoats was seventh (22.76), and Matt Reinard (Camp Hill, Pa./Cumberland Valley) was ninth (22.99).
 
Kravetz won the 110-meter hurdles with a PSAC mark of 15.19 and Reinard was sixth overall with a PSAC mark of 15.71.
 
Nathan Govern (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) was third in the hammer throw with a PSAC mark of 152-00.0.
 
Andrew Wehrle (Punxsutawney, Pa./ Punxsutawney) and Morgan Gavitt (Hughesville, Pa./Hughesville) placed fifth and sixth in the 800-meter run with times of 1:55.41 and 1:56.07, respectively.
 
In the 1,500-meter event, Gavin Furey (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport) and Kirk Stewart (South Park, Pa./South Park) finished second and third, respectively, with times of 4:06.82 and 4:09.57.
 
Kevin Taylor (Bellefonte, Pa./Erie County Home Schoolers) and Tyler Lobos (Lewisburg, Pa./Milton) finished second and third in the pole vault, and Kohen Stover (Hershey, Pa./Hershey) and Colby Petrizzo (Schuylkill Haven, Pa./Blue Mountain) went 2-3 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Chris Hine (Plains, Pa./Holy Redeemer) and Mason Ochs (Oarmont, Pa./Riverview) placed third and fourth in the 5,000m.
 
Gabe Springer (Wilkes Barre, Pa./Wallanpaupak) was third in the high jump (6-00.0) and Lawrence finished fifth in the triple jump (42-03.5).
 
Keegan Gwinn (Tyrone, Pa./Tyrone) closed the meet with a fourth-place throw in the javelin.
