Miller, Shoats Post Individual Wins to Pace Men’s Track & Field

Ryan Miller bolted to a win at 400 meters and Justice Shoats leaped to victory in the high jump as the two powered a strong effort by the Bald Eagles at today’s Bucknell Team Challenge.

LEWISBURG, Pa. Ryan Miller (Bradford, Pa./Bradford) won the 400-meter dash and Justice Shoats (Wilkes Barre, Pa./Holy Redeemer) won the high jump as the two lead the way today for the Lock Haven men's outdoor track and field team at the Bucknell Team Challenge.
 
Shoats, fresh off a mid-week school record in the long jump, turned in another all-around brilliant effort today. He jumped 6-06 in the high jump and topped a Division I heavy field. It was another Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championship qualifying mark for the rookie standout.
 
Shoats also placed sixth in the 100-meter dash (11.36) and he was a member of Lock Haven's second-place 4x100-meter relay team (42.25).
 
Miller ran to victory at 400 meters, thanks to a PSAC time of 48.44. He returned to place to fifth in the 200-meter dash with a PSAC time of 22.38.
 
The Bald Eagles opened the day with a strong showing in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Morgan Gavitt (Hughesville, Pa./Hughesville) was sixth with a PSAC time of 9:46.62 as he was the top Division II finisher in the field. Tanner Walter (New Columbia, Pa./Milton) was eighth with a PSAC mark of 9:54.82 and Evan Klinger (Riverside, Pa./Danville) also ran a PSAC time (10:18.78) in the race.
 
The Haven men scored big in the 400-meter hurdles. Matthew Muthler (Pottstown, Pa./Owen J. Roberts), Matt Reinard (Camp Hill, Pa./Cumberland Valley) and Austin Kravetz (Altoona, Pa./Altoona) all hit PSAC marks. Muthler was third overall (top DII finisher) with a time of 56.69, Reinard was fourth (57.44) and Kravetz was seventh (58.13).
 
Overall, Lock Haven showed well at 400 meters. Along with Ryan Miller's win, Kylie Scott-Harper (Chester, Pa./Chester) was sixth (50.84) and Brennan Miller (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Mechanicsburg) was seventh (51.25).
 
Kravetz was the top Division II finisher and placed third overall in the 110-meter hurdles with a PSAC time of 15.15.
 
Muthler added a sixth-place finish in the high jump with a PSAC mark of 6-02.
 
Keegan Gwinn (Tyrone, Pa./Tyrone) placed fifth and scored in the javelin throw (137-04).
 
Both Nathan Fetchkan (Newville, Pa./Big Spring) and Nathan Govern (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) threw a PSAC mark of 149-04 in the hammer throw today.
 
Kirk Stewart (South Park, Pa./South Park) ran to a PSAC mark in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:57.44
 
Andrew Wehrle (Punxsutawney, Pa./ Punxsutawney) was sixth in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:04.23. Michael Lawrence (Blakeslee, Pa./Pocono Mountain West) ran 11.36 (seventh) in the 100-meter dash.
 
Up Next for Lock Haven:
The Bald Eagles will return to action at the prestigious Penn Relays, scheduled for Thursday – Saturday, April 27-29 at the University of Pennsylvania's historic Franklin Field.
