Softball Records Sunday Split at Shepherd

Bald Eagles take game one at Shepherd on the road in important PSAC East series.

SHEPERDSTOWN, W.Va. – The Lock Haven softball team (23-21, 13-15 PSAC East) split an important late-season Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division doubleheader today at Shepherd (27-21, 10-18).

The Bald Eagles soared to a game-one victory, 6-4, but the host Rams battled back to win, 9-2, in game two.

Game 1 Recap: Lock Haven 6 – Shepherd 4

Riley McClellan's (Granville Summit, Pa./Troy) bat powered Lock Haven to the game-one win. She had three hits (3-for-4) with a two-run home run.

Bella Schmitt (Dillsburg, Pa./Northern York) had two hits and drove in a pair of runs, and standout Delaney Good (Mifflinburg, Pa./Mifflinburg) finished with two runs scored.

Host-Shepherd scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to take a 3-2 lead, but the Bald Eagles responded in a big way.

Lock Haven scored three runs in the top of the fifth and led 5-3. Schmitt's RBI-double tied the game at 3-3 and McClellan's two-run homer put The Haven up 5-3. The Bald Eagles added a run in the sixth inning as they cruised to the game-one victory.

Pitcher Kinley Gioglio (Stroudsburg, Pa./Stroudsburg) entered in the fourth inning and her four solid innings led her to a winning effort.

Game 2 Recap: Shepherd 9 – Lock Haven 2

Four different players recorded a hit, including Good, a nominee for Division II Player of the Year. She had two hits today between the two games and ran her season total to a remarkable 73 hits, which leaves her just three away from breaking the all-time single season hits' record at The Haven. She also upped her season total to 54 runs scored, which is No. 2 all-time for a single season. The school record for runs scored in a season is 59.

Trailing 7-0, the Bald Eagles rallied in the sixth for a pair of runs. Schmitt had another strong game and her double to right field plated a run. Later in the inning, she scored on a wild pitch, but the two runs were all The Haven could muster up.

Up Next for Lock Haven:
The Bald Eagles will return to action on Wednesday, April 26 when they host IUP in a PSAC East-West crossover at 2 p.m.
