Softball Splits, Remains in Playoff Contention

Bald Eagles take game two over Bloomsburg today and remain in contention for PSAC postseason bid.

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven softball team (24-22, 14-16 PSAC East) rallied to take game two over Bloomsburg (19-31, 13-17 PSAC East) today at home in a tightly contested and important late-season Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division doubleheader.
 
With playoff implications on the line, Bloomsburg edged out Lock Haven 1-0 in game one, but the Bald Eagles remained in the hunt for a playoff spot with a 4-1 game-two victory.
 
As of press time, Lock Haven (14-16) is in fifth-place in the PSAC Eastern Division standings, one game up on Bloomsburg (13-17). The top five teams in the Eastern Division will qualify for the PSAC postseason tournament. The No. 1-4 seeds are locked up, as it's a battle for the fifth and final spot heading into the final weekend of the 2023 regular season where anything could still happen. Millersville is currently 12-18 in PSAC East play.
 
Lock Haven will close the regular season tomorrow (Friday, April 28) at East Stroudsburg. Bloomsburg is scheduled to host Millersville to close the regular season, and the two teams are set to meet on Saturday.
 
Delaney Good (Mifflinburg, Pa./Mifflinburg) had a hit in each game today and ran her season total to 75, which ties Lock Haven's all-time single-season record for hits.

Visiting Bloomsburg edged Lock Haven 1-0 in a game that took just over an hour. Each team had two hits and pitching featured in the opener.
 
Bloomsburg scored the game's only run in the top of the third inning on a fielder's choice that resulted in a play at the plate.
 
Lock Haven's Madison Waltman (Turbotville, Pa./Warrior Run) pitched well, but was on the end result of a tough decision. She went the distance and allowed just two hits over seven innings. Bloomsburg's Callie Sowers struck out six on the way to the win.
 
Good had a hit in game one for Lock Haven, as did Kerri McCallum (Havertown, Pa./Haverford).
 
Game 2 Recap: Lock Haven 4 – Bloomsburg 1
 
The Bald Eagles jumped on Bloomsburg early and led 2-0 after one inning.
 
The Haven scored four runs on five hits.
 
Haley Lestician (Lawrenceville, N.J./Lawrence) and Riley McClellan (Granville Summit, Pa./Troy) both drove in runs in the first inning and Bella Schmitt (Dillsburg, Pa./Northern York) doubled in a pair of runs in the fourth.
 
Kinley Gioglio (Stroudsburg, Pa./Stroudsburg) scattered four hits on the way to the win and Keiva Middleton (Willow Street, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) didn't allow a hit over the final three innings on the way to a save.
 
On the season, Good has scored 55 runs which currently stands as the second-most in school history for a single season. The school record is 59.
