SELINSGROVE, Pa. Matthew Muthler (Pottstown, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) of the Lock Haven University men's outdoor track and field team turned in a sensational effort at the two-day Susquehanna Multi Meet. He placed third of 16 with 6,013 points in the decathlon.

The 6,013-point tally is the best mark in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) this season.

The decathlon started yesterday (Thurs.), and after five events, Muthler entered today's action with 3,096 points and he was in eighth of 16 in the field.

Thursday's day-one events included the 100-meter dash, long jump, shot put, high jump and 400-meter dash. The fifth-final event of the day proved to be Muthler's best as he won the 400-meter dash with a time of 51.48. He was fourth in the high jump (5-10.75).

Today, Muthler finished strong. He was third in the javelin throw (147-04) and he won the final event of the competition – the 1,500-meter run with a remarkable effort of 4:14.92. The 4:14.92 is believed to be one of the fastest 1,500's ever run by a Division II athlete in the decathlon. Today's other events included the 110-meter hurdles, discus throw and pole vault.

The full LHU men's and women's outdoor track and field teams will be in action tomorrow (Sat., April 8) at the Susquehanna Easter Invitational.
