LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University women's tennis team (7-3, 3-2 PSAC) celebrated Senior Day 2023 today with a big win at home over Shippensburg University (1-7, 0-3 PSAC) in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) action.
Lock Haven won 6-1 and moved to an impressive 7-3 overall. The Bald Eagles are now 3-2 in conference play and LHU finished the 2022-23 season with a remarkable 4-1 record at home.
Prior to today's match, LHU head coach Pete Wert and the Bald Eagles honored the program's three graduating seniors:
Delani Wolever (Northumberland, Pa./Shikellamy),
Maddy Reeves (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville) and
Ellie Flynn (Kersey, Pa./Elk County Catholic). The three have played pivotal roles in the restart of the women's tennis program.
Reeves picked up an impressive win at No. 1 singles today, downing Corrine Markovich 6-2, 6-3.
Mia Shuler (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport) won 6-1, 6-2 over Brooklynn Rupert at No. 2 singles.
At No. 3 singles,
Olivia Anastos (Lock Haven, Pa./Central Mountain) won a thriller that went the distance and some. She downed Kendall Winters 6-1 in the first set, but dropped the second set 7-6. Anastos rolled to victory with a 10-7 win in the tiebreaker.
Wolever was downed by Brighid Cantwell 6-0, 6-4 at No. 4 singles.
Mary Kathryn Hillman (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport) won 7-5, 6-2 over Avery Wissinger at No. 5 singles, and
Christy McLean (Jim Thorpe, Pa./Jim Thorpe) defeated Katelyn Hanft 6-1, 6-3 at No. 6 singles as Lock Haven won five of six singles matches.
The Bald Eagles won two of three doubles matches. Reeves and Shuler won 6-3 at No. 1 doubles, and Wolever and McLean posted victory at No. 3 doubles.
Up Next for Lock Haven:
The Bald Eagles will return to action next weekend when they head to West Chester for a 1 p.m. PSAC match on Saturday, April 15, and they will also take on Clarion on the road on Sunday, April 16. Lock Haven will close the season with a three-match road swing. The 2022-23 regular-season finale is set for April 18 at Kutztown.
