Men’s Track & Field Closes PSAC Championships with Notable Marks

Ryan Miller finishes second at 400 meters; Bald Eagles take second in 4x1 relay and place third in 4x4 relay

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Ryan Miller (Bradford, Pa./Bradford) placed second overall in the 400-meter finals and he scored in the 200-meter finals to lead the way for the Lock Haven men's outdoor track and field team on the third and final day of competition - today (Sat., May 13) at the 2023 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Outdoor Track and Field Championships, hosted by Slippery Rock.
 
Miller ran a notable 48.06 in the 400m and he placed second in a deep and talented field. He returned to take seventh in the 200m with a time of 22.03.
 
Highlighting the day was also Lock Haven's efforts in the two relays. The Bald Eagles opened the day with a second-place finish in the 4x100-meter relay with a time of 42.09. The Haven men closed the meet with a third-place finish in the 4x400-meter relay with a season-best time of 3.16.79.
 
Justice Shoats (Wilkes Barre, Pa./Holy Redeemer) placed fifth in the high jump today with a mark of 6-06. For Shoats, the fifth-place finish today in the high jump followed his victory yesterday in the long jump.
 
Gavin Furey (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport) finished fifth in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:55.74. Morgan Gavitt (Hughesville, Pa./Hughesville) was to start the 800-meter final as the No. 2 seed, but he was able to finish today's finals because of injury.
 
Matt Reinard (Camp Hill, Pa./Cumberland Valley) placed seventh in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 54.77 today.  
 
Yesterday, Shoats leaped to victory in the long jump and Matthew Muthler (Pottstown, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) capped a brilliant two-day run in the decathlon with a second-place finish. Shoats topped the field in the long jump with a remarkable leap of 23-10.75, an NCAA Division II championship qualifying mark.
 
Muthler finished second overall in the two-day (Thurs. & Fri., May 11-12) decathlon with a point-total of 6,325, the fifth-best mark in school history. He capped the two-day, 10-event competition with an 859-point run of 4:13.20 in the 1,500-meter event.
 
By way of top-three individual performances, Shoats (1st, LJ), Miller 2nd, 400m) and Muthler (2nd, DEC) all earn individual All-Conference honors. The Bald Eagles also earned All-PSAC honors in the two relays.
 
Jimmy Pombor (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport), Michael Lawrence (Blakeslee, Pa./Pocono Mountain West), Austin Kravetz (Altoona, Pa./Altoona) and Shoats ran the 4x1 final. Kylie Scott-Harper (Chester, Pa./Chester), Aydan Summers (Altoona, Pa./Altoona), Brennan Miller (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Mechanicsburg) and Ryan Miller ran the 4x4 relay.
 
The Haven men scored in 10 of 21 events and finished fifth of 13 teams with 58 points.
