BUCKHANNON, W.V. – The Lock Haven volleyball team swept Bowie State 3-0 in their final match of day one at the West Virginia Wesleyan Quad Tournament in Buckhannon, West Virginia on Friday (Sept. 15).
The Bald Eagles are off to a 3-2 start in 2023 after securing their second clean sweep of the season.
Seton Hill Recap (1-3) (25-14, 15-25, 13-25, 12-25)
Lock Haven fell to Seton Hill 3-1 in four sets to open the weekend in West Virginia.
The Bald Eagles got off to a fast start after winning the first set 25-14, but Seton Hill flipped the script from there on out, taking the final three sets by 10 or more.
The Griffins led 52-26 in kills while connecting on 29 percent of their attempts compared while limiting the Bald Eagles to a six percent success rate.
Evie Jane Rembold (Lock Haven, Pa./Central Mountain) and
Reagan Irons (Tyrone, Pa./Tyrone) led Lock Haven with 16 kills.
Kelly Gaston (Centennial, Colo./Grandview) led the team in setups with 16 and matched
Madison Eckley (Julian, Pa./Bald Eagle) with a team-high 10 digs.
Rembold, Reagan and
Emma Kelly (Cypress, Texas/Cypress Ranch) each finished with one block.
Paige Cole was the standout for the Griffins, finishing with 18 kills and one block.
Bowie State Recap (3-0) (25-18, 25-14, 25-20)
The Bald Eagles finished the afternoon in style, downing Bowie State in three straight set to earn the sweep. The Haven's best set came in the second, when they reached the magic number while holding Bowie State to 14 points.
In the second set, The Haven led 11-6 in kills, while committing just two errors with a successful attempt rate of nearly 40 percent.
The Bald Eagles led in every major category, but made most their damage on aces, finishing with an advantage of 22-9. Eckley led the way with seven aces.
Gaston improved her assists by nine in the nightcap, adding nine digs. Eckley collected 11 digs, while Kelly and Irons both finished with a team-high seven kills. Kelly also added 9.0 points.
Irons led the defense with two blocks.
