VB: Lock Haven sweeps Central State to conclude trip in West Virginia

The Bald Eagles concluded their trip in Buckhannon, West Virginia with non-conference matches against Central State and Indianapolis.

BUCKHANNON, W.V. – The Lock Haven volleyball team (4-3) earned a 3-0 sweep over Central State University before falling to Indianapolis on their final day at the West Virginia Quad Tournament in Buckhannon, West Virginia on Saturday (Sept. 16).
 
The Bald Eagles conclude their West Virginia trip after going 2-2.
 
Lock Haven secured two clean sweeps on the weekend, giving them three already on the year.
 
Central State (3-0) (25-18, 25-11, 25-19)
 
The Bald Eagles made quick work of Central State, taking the first three sets 25-18, 25-11 and 25-19.
 
The Haven's most dominating set came in the second, where they committed just one error to Central State's eight, while connecting at an impressive 47 percent success rate.
 
The Lock Haven defense held Central State to a negative hitting percentage. The Bald Eagles matched Central state with 23 kills, but led 7-3 in aces, 5-4 in blocks and 36-31 in digs.
 
Kelly Gaston (Centennial, Colo./Grandview) led the team with 17 assists and 13 digs, while Emma Kelly (Cypress, Texas/Cypress Ranch) and Sabrina Valentin (Ovideo, Fla./Paul J. Hagerty) finished with a team-high five kills.
 
Three different Bald Eagles finished with a block.
 
Indianapolis (0-3) (12-25, 10-25, 13-25)
 
The Bald Eagles fell in their second match of the afternoon to a 10-2 overall Indianapolis team.
 
Indianapolis heavy hitters led the way, finishing with a match-high 41 kills and a 45 percent hitting percentage.
 
Natalie Acevedo (Camuy, Puerto Rico/Paula Freire Social Justice Charter School) had a solid all-around match, collecting eight digs and four kills. Gaston finished with a team-high 18 assists, adding six digs. Sabrina Valentin added a team-high seven kills.

The Bald Eagles remain on the road on Friday Sept. 22 when they open their Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) schedule at Bloomsburg for a 6 p.m. match.
