RICHMOND, Va. – The Lock Haven field hockey team (2-6, 1-2 A-10) scored three goals in the second half to earn a come-from-behind victory at The University of Richmond (6-4, 2-1 A-10) in Atlantic-10 Conference action on Friday night (Sept. 29).
Brooke Hofsass (Hershey, Pa./Lower Dauphin) found the back of the cage twice to lead the way for the Bald Eagles, who earned their first A-10 victory of the season. The Haven handed Richmond its first conference loss on the year.
Hofsass opened the scoring in the 11
th minute with a penalty stroke goal, her fourth of the season.
However, Richmond scored in the 11
th and 18
th minute to quickly take their first lead, 2-1.
The scoring slowed down for the next 24 minutes, until Lock Haven connected on the equalizer off a penalty corner to knot the score at 2-2.
Alyssa Endrick (Warrington, Pa./Central Bucks South) and
Anna May Barbusca (Lancaster, Pa./Penn Manor) set up a perfect entry to Hofsass, who beat the keeper for her second score of the game.
Lock Haven didn't stop there as they regained the lead just nine minutes later when Constance Lopez Zabala (Buenos Aires, Argintina/Colegio Martin y Omar) connected on her sixth goal of the season to make it 3-2.
The Haven added an insurance goal in the 56
th minute when
Martina Spangenberg (Buenos Aires, Argentina/Piaget) found the back of the cage off a helper from Endrick. The goal was Spangenberg's first of the season and Endrick's second assist on the night.
Richmond cut the Bald Eagles' advantage to one with three minutes to go, but The Haven stood tall from that point to clinch the A-10 victory.
Kelsey Felix (Hallam, Pa./Eastern York) earned the win in cage for the Bald Eagles, making five saves in the full 60 minutes.
The Haven, who trailed Richmond in shots and corners, made the most of their opportunities and made key plays on defense to earn the conference win.

The Bald Eagles remain on the road to close out the weekend and will travel to Lawrenceville, N.J. to take on Rider University at noon on Sunday (Oct. 1).
