WEST CHESTER, Pa. – The Lock Haven men's soccer team struck first in a road Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division contest at West Chester University, but the Golden Rams scored three unanswered goals to steal a 3-1 victory at home on Saturday (Sept. 30).
The contest started as a defensive battle, as neither squad could find the back of the net through the opening 41 minutes.
Jimmy Pombor (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport) scored his first goal of the season in the 42
nd minute to give The Haven a 1-0 lead.
However, the Golden Rams struck for the equalizer just 20 seconds later to make it 1-1 entering the break.
West Chester carried the momentum into the second half, striking for another score in the 52
nd minute before adding an insurance goal in the 69
th minute to round out the scoring.
Despite losing the possession battle, the Bald Eagle defense played strong, fighting off a game-high 16 shots from WCU and five corners.
In net,
Brady Freiwald (Altoona, Pa. Altoona) collected seven saves in the full 90 minutes.
Jimmy Pomber led the Bald Eagles in shots. Three different players for Lock Haven recorded a shot on goal.
