Men’s Track & Field shines at Bucknell Team Challenge

Peter Bellomo (javelin), Kwame Whitaker Jr. (long jump) and Austin Kravetz (110mH) post individual victories; Bald Eagles power way to third-place team finish Saturday among DI heavy field

LEWISBURG, Pa.Peter Bellomo (Jersey Shore, Pa./Jersey Shore), Kwame Whitaker Jr. (Fredericksburg, Va./Courtland) and Austin Kravetz (Altoona, Pa./Altoona) picked up individual victories today (Saturday, April 20) and their individual success helped power the Lock Haven men's outdoor track and field team to a third-place finish at the Bucknell Team Challenge.
 
The Bald Eagles also posted a victory in the final event of the day on the track as they bested the field in the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 3:22.40.
 
Peter Bellomo won the javelin with another monster throw, Whitaker won the long jump with the fifth-best mark in school history and Kravetz ran the fifth-best mark in Lock Haven history on the way to the win in the 110-meter hurdles.
 
As a team, Lock Haven finished third of nine, and behind only Bucknell and Army.
 
Peter Bellomo was first of 15 in the javelin with a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) and NCAA Division II championship qualifying mark of 197-05.
 
Whitaker won the long jump with a leap of 23-08 (#PSAC), the fifth-best mark in school history outdoors.
 
Kravetz won the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.82. The Bald Eagles dominated the event as Josiah Schans (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville) was fourth in 15.06 and Matthew Muthler (Pottstown, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) was ninth in 15.38. All three ran PSAC qualifying times.
 
Schans had a big day, and he placed second in the 400-meter hurdles with a PSAC time of 55.57.
 
Lock Haven scored (*top-6) big in the high jump behind Justice Shoats (Wilkes Barre, Pa./Holy Redeemer) and Muthler, and both hit PSAC marks. Shoats was fourth (6-04) and Muthler was sixth (6-02).
 
Jakob Rager (Dallastown, Pa./Dallastown) finished third in the 5,000-meter run with a PSAC time of 15:09.91.
 
Ryan Miller (Bradford, Pa./Bradford) finished fourth in the 400-meter dash with a PSAC time of 49.11.
 
Chase Young (Mill Hall, Pa./Central Mountain) finished fourth in the triple-jump with a PSAC mark of 44-09.75. Nick Bellomo (Jersey Shore, Pa./Jersey Shore) finished fifth in the pole vault with a PSAC mark of 14-09.
 
In the hammer throw, Nathan Fetchkan (Newville, Pa./Big Spring) was the top Division II finisher and eighth overall with a PSAC throw of 153-02. Fetchkan and Eric Zalar (Shamokin, Pa./Shamokin) hit PSAC marks in the shot put with throws of 46-02.5 and 46-00.5, respectively. Braedon Firanski (Clearfield, Pa./Clearfield) hit a PSAC mark in the discus throw behind a ninth-place mark of 147-05.
 
Kohen Stover (Hershey, Pa./Hershey) added a PSAC mark in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 10:11.71 (ninth).
 
At 200 meters, both Michael Lawrence (Blakeslee, Pa./Pocono Mountain West) and Lucca Capparelli (State College, Pa./State College) hit PSAC marks with runs of 22.12 and 22.17, respectively.
 
Along with the Bald Eagles win in the 4x4, Lock Haven also finished third in the 4x100-meter relay (42.35).

Lock Haven plans to send select athletes to the 2024 Penn Relays in Philadelphia (April 25-27). The Bald Eagles will officially close the regular season on Saturday, April 27 at the Bloomsburg Invitational.
