LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – After trailing 2-0 through two sets, the Lock Haven volleyball team stormed back to force a winner-take-all fifth set, but Shippensburg edged The Haven 16-14 to escape Thomas Fieldhouse with a 3-2 (12-25, 11-25, 25-22, 25-17, 16-14) victory in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division match on Friday night.
Shippensburg stormed out to a 2-0 lead with victories in the first and second set, 25-12 and 25-11.
However, with their backs against the wall, the resilient Bald Eagles fought back to take the ensuing two sets, 25-22 and 25-17, to knot the overall match score at 2-2.
During the rally, The Haven recorded a match-high 17 kills in the third set with a team-high .400 hit percentage.
In the fifth and final set, both schools traded points all the way until the end, before Shippensburg ultimately came out on top, 16-14.
Gracelynn Wolzen led the Bald Eagles' offense with 17 kills.
Maddie Mitchell added 12 kills and 12 digs.
Madelyn Wagner and
Gabby Gealey finished with 18 assists each.
Olivia Taylor commanded the Lock Haven defense with 18 digs.
Lock Haven falls to 3-11 overall and 1-1 in the PSAC East, while Shippensburg improves to 9-6 overall and 2-0 in the conference.
