Baseball sweeps Glenville State, remains perfect on the season

Bald Eagles open four-game weekend series at Glenville State with Saturday sweep; Lock Haven improves to a perfect 6-0, the best start in school history

GLENVILLE, W.Va. – The Lock Haven baseball team returned to action today (Saturday, Feb. 22) and opened a four-game weekend series at Glenville State and the Bald Eagles swept the non-conference doubleheader.
 
Lock Haven won game-one, 1-0, and the Bald Eagles came back to win game two, 4-2.
 
Today's pair of wins helped Lock Haven improve to a perfect 6-0, the best start on record in school history.
 
Game 1 Recap: Lock Haven 1 – Glenville State 0
In the day's opener, starting pitcher Garrett Starr was the star of the afternoon, pitching a six-inning shutout for the Bald Eagles. Starr's outstanding start powered The Haven to the 1-0 victory.
 
Starr pitched six innings, allowed three hits, walked three and he struck out eight. The quality start gave the senior his second win of the season.
 
Jace Szaflarski shut the door in the seventh, recording two strikeouts while picking up the save.
 
The Haven's only run came in the second, with an RBI-groundout from Jake Ambrosio.
 
Zachary McEllroy (1-for-3) had the lone hit for the Bald Eagles and Jaxson Pupo scored Lock Haven's lone run.
 
Game 2 Recap: Lock Haven 4 – Glenville State 2
Trailing 2-1, Lock Haven rallied four three runs in the top of the sixth and the late-game surge helped the Bald Eagles take game two, 4-2, and earn the sweep.
 
Lock Haven's four runs came on six hits.
 
Connor Griffin homered in the fourth inning, while Nathan Wise, McEllroy and Pupo all singled in runs during the sixth-inning rally.
 
Lock Haven pitcher Andrew Kramer was credited with the win (3 IP, 3Ks).
 
With the two losses, Glenville State fell to 2-3 on the season.

Lock Haven is set to play a doubleheader tomorrow (Sunday, Feb. 23) at Glenville State to close out the weekend series.
