LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven lacrosse team opened the 2025 season today (Sunday, Feb. 23) by hosting Daemon on Charlotte Smith Field and the Bald Eagles soared from start-to-finish on the way to the 17-7 non-conference victory.
Lock Haven scored less than one minute into the contest and led 10-3 at halftime
Gabby Gunnip finished with five goals and one assist (6 pts.) to pace the potent attack.
Makayla Kelly and
Hadley Munn each netted hat tricks. Munn added three assists for a six-point outing.
Kaitlyn Collins scored twice as did
Addy Palm.
Emma Williams and
Lexi Bunk both scored - to round out The Haven tallies.
Defensively, the Lock Haven defense was credited with 10 caused turnovers. Collins had three and she added four ground balls.
Mackenna Brown scooped four ground balls and added two caused turnovers.
Goalkeepers
Gretchen King and
Landyn Dayton split time between the pipes. King got the start and made five saves in the first half on the way to the win. Dayton made two saves in the second half of play.
The Bald Eagles controlled the ground ball advantage, 23-14, and Lock Haven outshot the visitors, 23-14.
Today's game marked the season opener for both teams and was originally scheduled for yesterday at Daemon, but the contest was moved to Lock Haven because of weather and field conditions.
Lock Haven will now start the 2025 season with four straight home games.
The Bald Eagles will return to action on Wednesday, Feb. 26 at 2 p.m. when they host Ashland. Last season, The Haven was 6-2 on the home turf. The full 2025 Lock Haven lacrosse schedule is available at GoLHU.com.
Overall, Lock Haven was 14-4 (9-3 PSAC) overall last season and advanced to the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) tournament for the first time since 2018.
