LOCK HAVEN, Pa. (Wednesday, March 5) – The Lock Haven lacrosse team fell to visiting No. 10 Regis 14-10 in a non-conference game at Charlotte Smith Field on Wednesday afternoon.
Lock Haven moves to 2-2 on the season and Regis improves to 1-3.
Gabby Gunnip and
Makayla Kelly both finished with a hat-trick to lead The Haven on offense. Gunnip, who scored her 100
th career goal, added an assist, three draw controls and two ground balls.
Kaitlyn Collins scored twice and dished out two assists, while
Nadia Baskot and
Emma Williams also scored. Williams and
Hadley Munn added helpers.
Munn caused a team-high four turnovers and picked up three ground balls to lead the Bald Eagles' defense. Collins and Baskot secured three ground balls each.
The Bald Eagles found the back of the net four times in the opening period to jump out to a 4-2 lead. Kelly, Gunnip, Collins and Baskot scored for Lock Haven during the run.
However, Regis outscored The Haven 8-3 over the second and third quarter to lead 10-7 with 15 minutes to go.
Regis rode the momentum into the fourth quarter and scored two quick goals to lead 12-7.
Lock Haven wasn't done and responded with three unanswered goals starting at the 10:32 mark in the fourth to cut its deficit to 12-10 with seven minutes remaining. Gunnip and Kelly notched a hat-trick and Collins scored her second goal during the run.
However, Regis answered with two more goals before running out the remainder of the clock to seal the victory.
