Lacrosse storms back in fourth quarter, falls late at Jefferson

The Bald Eagles hit the road for the first time this season for a non-conference game at Jefferson

PHILADELPHIA (Saturday, March 8) – The Lock Haven lacrosse team scored four goals in the final quarter to tie the game, but Jefferson scored the game-winner with 29 seconds remaining to slip by the Bald Eagles, 13-12, in a non-conference game in Philadelphia.
 
Makayla Kelly was a force on offense for the Bald Eagles (2-4 overall) and finished with seven points, including a team-high four goals and three assists. Kelly added two ground balls and two caused turnovers.
 
After securing her 100th-career goal last time out, Gabby Gunnip recorded a hat-trick and scooped up two ground balls.
 
Brynlee Pinschenat, Kaitlyn Collins, Emma Schiemer, Nadia Baskot and Emma Williams also scored goals.
 
In net, Gretchen King made a game-high seven saves for The Haven. Sam Hauck led the defense with three caused turnovers and three ground balls.
 
Lock Haven jumped out to a 4-3 lead after the first quarter, but Jefferson outscored the Bald Eagles 7-4 over the next two periods to jump out on top, 10-8, heading into the final 15 minutes.
 
Jefferson held the shot advantage during the run, but Lock Haven keeper King was outstanding in net and made seven saves through three quarters.
 
However, Lock Haven scored three of the first four goals in the second half to knot the game at 11-11 with 7:45 to go in the contest.
 
The two schools traded scores over the ensuing five minutes to make it 12-12, but Jefferson connected on the game-winning goal with 29 seconds remaining, before getting a defensive stop to seal the victory.
 
The Rams were led offensively by four different athletes with multiple goals.
 
Next up for The Haven:
The Bald Eagles return to Charlotte Smith Field on Saturday (March 15) at noon to host Frostburg State in a non-conference game.
