Balestrini’s monster day leads Softball to sweep over Mansfield

The Bald Eagles were clicking on all cylinders in their PSAC East sweep over visiting Mansfield

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Blaire Balestrini hit for the cycle during the two games, including a grand slam to highlight the Lock Haven softball team's 7-0, 9-1 sweep over Mansfield in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon.
 
With the sweep, the Bald Eagles improve to 11-17 on the season and 5-13 in the PSAC East.
 
Balestrini finished the day 6-for-7 with a grand slam, a triple, two doubles, four runs scored and five RBIs.
 
Talia Ross and Keri Wesneski provided quality starting pitching during the two victories and the offense put up 16 runs on 17 hits.
 
Game 1 Recap: Lock Haven 7, Mansfield 0
In game one, Wesneski pitched a gem and Balestrini finished 4-for-5 with two doubles to lead Lock Haven to a 7-0 victory.
 
After working out of a bases-loaded jam in the first inning without allowing a run, Wesneski went on to throw a complete-game shutout to earn her third victory of the season. Wesneski scattered seven hits and struck out two hitters.
 
Balestrini reached safely during her first four at-bats and came around to score twice.
 
Madison Hardy drove in a pair of runs, while Evelyn Osborne also picked up an RBI.
 
The Bald Eagles finished with a game-high nine hits by six different players.
 
Lock Haven scored a run in the first and second inning to build an early 2-0 lead, before tacking on four runs in the bottom of the sixth to put the game out of reach.
 
Game 2 Recap: Lock Haven 9, Mansfield 1
In game two, the Lock Haven bats continued to roll and The Haven scored nine runs over the third and fourth inning to secure a 9-1 victory in five innings.
 
Balestrini capped off her huge day by going 2-for-2 (5 RBIs) with a triple and a grand slam in the bottom of the fourth inning. The homer was her fourth of the season.
 
Abby Robertson notched two hits, including a double and also drove in a run. Bella Schmitt doubled and drove in two runs to round out the Bald Eagles with RBIs.
 
Ross took the mound in game two for Lock Haven and went all five innings and allowed just one run on two hits, while striking out seven to pick up her fifth victory on the season.
 
Next up for The Haven:
The Bald Eagle hit the road and will travel to Millersville on Friday (April 11) for a 2 p.m. PSAC East doubleheader.
